The Swiss Center for Technology Assessment is cautioning that the increasing market for anti-ageing items needs proper investigation. In a study report, it points out that firms are already attempting to cash in demand from those seeking to avert the effects of time without counting the impingement on their health. TA-Swiss set in motion its study after agnizing that current studies could lead in some years time to substances and methods that could slow the results of ageing. Also after ascertaining that there are already things being advertized as anti-ageing with good sales. “Anti-ageing items are in a grey area between nutrition and health,” said Adrian Rüegseger of TA-Swiss. “When it comes to pharmaceutics, the regulatory procedure is clear, but anti-ageing creams are usually sold as if they have a medicinal effect even as they do not need any authorization ahead of going on sale.”

With the increasing elderly mass – and in 40 years’ time frame, above a third will be elder than 60 - there is already a lot of demand for these items and the market will carry on its expansion as per the assessment center. “It’s usual for people to want these things as the people get aged. That’s the reason we think there must be more regulation of such products,” Rüegseger added.
